Blending & Segmenting Class

The Blending & Segmenting Class is a critical step in your child’s phonics journey, designed for children aged 4 to 5.5 years. This class helps transform the sounds children have learned into full words they can read and spell.

Using playful techniques, interactive games, and storytelling, children learn to blend individual letter sounds to form words (e.g., /c/ /a/ /t/ = “cat”) and segment spoken words back into sounds. These two foundational skills are key to reading fluency and early spelling success.

Each session builds confidence through repeated practice, sound-to-word games, flashcard challenges, and creative activities that make word construction feel like a puzzle. With gentle guidance and visual aids, children begin to decode unfamiliar words independently—unlocking a new level of literacy.

This class is where “sounding out” turns into actual reading, and your child starts recognizing that letters are not just symbols—they are tools for expression.

The Blending & Segmenting Class is where phonics becomes practical and powerful. Designed for children aged 4 to 5.5 years, this class focuses on two of the most essential early reading skills: blending (pushing sounds together to make words) and segmenting (breaking words down into individual sounds). These skills are the heart of decoding and spelling.

Blending sounds builds the reader. Segmenting sounds shapes the speller. Together, they give your child the power to unlock every word.

The Spell & Write Club is designed for children aged 5 to 7 years who are ready to move beyond basic sound blending and start developing confident writing and spelling skills. This class focuses on helping children understand spelling patterns, build vocabulary, and express their thoughts through simple written sentences.

Each session is filled with phonics-based word games, spelling challenges, dictation practice, and fun writing prompts that inspire creativity. Children learn how to stretch sounds in words, apply common spelling rules, and recognize tricky/sight words — all while building the muscle memory and confidence needed for independent writing.

By combining structure with imagination, this class turns writing from a chore into a creative, empowering skill.

To ensure your child gets the most out of our Sound Discovery sessions, here are a few simple things you’ll need to prepare before class:

🧸 1. A Quiet & Comfortable Space

Set up a small, distraction-free area where your child can sit and move comfortably. A soft mat or corner with cushions works great.

🎧 2. Good Internet & Audio Setup

Ensure a stable internet connection and use a device (tablet/laptop) with clear audio. Headphones are optional but helpful if your environment is noisy.

🧽 3. Simple Props & Sensory Items

Keep a few age-appropriate sensory items nearby for play-along activities. Suggested items:

  • Rattles or sound-making toys

  • Soft balls or textured fabrics

  • Small animal figurines or household objects that make gentle noise (bells, shakers)

A weekly prop list will be shared by your teacher before each class.

👩‍👧 4. Light Parental Support

A parent or guardian should be nearby (especially for children under 2.5 years) to help with transitions, manage materials, and encourage participation if needed.

📅 5. Consistent Attendance & Timing

Consistency helps build routine and confidence. Please be on time and try to attend each session to get the full benefit of the program.
